What is the best grade to teach in a public school?
-
I am currently studying to be a teacher but i am still unclear about what grade i want to teach. I live in Texas, so with being a 3rd and above teacher you are really pressured to have the students pass a certain TAKS test.

Answer:
It really depends a lot on you and your personality. Some people wouldn't teach anything but junior high and some people wouldn't teach anyone older than a kindergartener. I think you could maybe spend some time around kids of different ages and see which ones you'd like to work with.

there is no pressure, only when u think there is.if ya know whats on the test than teach them whats on the test.or prepare them for what u think will be on it.teach the grade u liked the most.it is a great job to have, and if you feel that u learned the most in a certain grade with certain material then you should teach that one!

It really depends on your own personality. I prefer second grade. They have two years of school experience and they are still innocent. They are still at an age where they respect what you say and don't talk back (most of them anyways). I recommend that you go and observe in different grades and sub as well. Get a feel for all the possible grade level until you find one that you are very comfortable with. As for test taking, you are right, you are pressured but don't make that a huge influential deciding factor for not wanting to get into the upper grades. Remember that for those kids to be ready to take those tests, their education begins in kindergarten.

That last grade before entering high school, whatever it is for the state. Entering high school in the right mindset is very important for a student. The most important turning point of a students life is how they view the last stage of there academic timeline. How they do in high school defines there future. So in a difference standpoint I feel last last grade before High School.

i think the best is to teach like 4th grade, this is when they arent babies or little kids any more, but arent like grown up all the way, its easier to teach this level though.

My aunt in Ft Worth, Texas has taught for over 30 years. She told me that the grade she likes teaching the best is the 4th grade. The last time I saw my aunt she did say all the new laws make it tougher, but she loves teaching and considers it worth it.

I think 6,7 and 8th graders. I coached wrestling at a junior high program and it was very enjoyable and rewarding.

All states have more pressure to pass standardized tests. If you are feeling a pull to a certain grade, then you should follow it. If you are miserable then consider switching grades.
