What is the best medical career to follow?

URGENT!! What career should i follow?

  • Hi guys, im 18 and i live in Sydney Australia and am about to start my first year of university this year. I am torn between pursuing a career in management or primary teaching. The courses i have to decide between are an advanced bachelors degree in business and commerce (majoring in management) at University of Western Sydney (for those of you who do not know this is somehow seen as having a bad rep to some) or a bachelor of education (primary education) at the University of Sydney (a very prestigious school). I would love to teach primary as i adore kids and think it would be very fulfilling and a good career in terms of having a family too, only problem is the salary. For those of you who do teach or know anything about it, is it a good job and a livable salary?? On the other hand management seems to have a higher pay but i have less interest in this (still dont mind it just less than teaching). How is management? and what kinds of jobs can u get with a degree in this?? Btw, i am hoping to be able to move overseas in the future and i would like to know which of these two careers would be more in demand and more useful overseas? any answers for any of the above questions would be great! thanks guys :)

  • Answer:

Management = higher potential pay, more stress, insecurity in tough times Primary teaching = lower but acceptable pay, less stress if you are competent in a good school, more security in government system You don't need a prestigious uni for teaching, but a MA and experience is essential for a good job overseas. A prestigious uni is a big advantage for management.

If you teach overseas you'll have to go to a country that accepts an Australian qualification. (I think most British schools do, and there are British schools in several countries.) If you do go to an international school, the pay and benefits will be better than at home, but they'll require more experience and possibly an MA before they'll hire you. As far as the business is concerned, you'd need to get hired by an international company that has offices overseas because you can't just waltz into a foreign country and expect to get a job without sponsorship. Both are possible: I think you should do what you love.
