What to write under objectives in a resume?

First CV/ Resume help?

  • Hi, I'm in the process of writing my first ever resume (wish me luck :). I understand I need to list some "objectives" on my CV, but i'm not sure what kinds of things to write for this, so I was wandering if u cud plz help me?

  • Answer:

Computers make this soooo easy. You change the objective to match whatever you are applying for. If it is a job sweeping floors, your objective is to be in charge of sweeping floors. If it is a job as full professor of basket-weaving at a university, your objective is to have a challenging position as a professor of basket-weaving. Another hint: Prepare a CV with everything you can think of in it. To prepare a targeted resume, cut and paste those sections that are pertinant to the position you are applying for. Prune ruthlessly. And always back up what you say. Don't just claim to be dependable; tell what you once did that shows that you are dependable. For example, you walked five miles each way to get to your job through hip-deep snow and it was uphill both ways. ;=)

I used this resume writing service in my area, this is the email address, ([email protected]) you should try them, it only cost me $35.00 and I got a great job from this new resume, I never thought about the format that they use but the turn around time was less then 24 hrs. I would have to say it was the best service I have ever used and it was worth every dime. Also they let me pay through paypal.

Check out a few websites or library books, getting examples of current resumes. Resume styles and forms change from time to time. Some people are getting away from objectives, especially for entry level positions. If you are applying for a position as a shoe salesman, for instance, what is the point of saying "My objective is to get a job selling shoes"? They already know that. Unless the position has some flexibility to it, many objectives can end up sounding pointlessly obvious.
