Do you have any tips for the SAT Reading Comprehension?

Tips for reading comprehension?

  • I have always had trouble with reading comprehension. I can read, I just can always understand or remember what it was that I read. I tried to get help with it when I was in school, the teachers never really seemed to think it was a problem, so they never did anything about it. Now that I have graduated from school, and am looking to go to college and university. I won't feel confident going to post secondary, until I feel that my reading comprehension has gotten to where it should be. Any tips or advice?

  • Answer:

I was always taught to read the piece of text through at least twice, then read the questions, and re read the text. Also when you are answering questions, comment on why the author had used certain phrases and if he has manipulated setting or weather to show emotion. Use quotes from the text. Answer is the P.E.A style, point, evidence, analysis. Try to pick out the devices used eg similes, metaphors, personification etc Most importantly, read the question carefully and don't just ramble on.
