What college degree do you need to?

What type of degree do i need to be a community college counsler?

  • I really want to be a community college counsler and help guide students on the right path with their major and career. You know helping them with picking the right classes and what not. What degree do I need? What major is it called. How long will it take? And if you know how much money they make. I live in Sacramento, California. Thank you

  • Answer:

Generally, you will need at least a Masters Degree in Higher Education Personnel or in counseling. You will also need to have very high grades and have been very active in college extracurriculars just to get an interview. There will be hundreds of applicants for each opening.

At the college level, counselors have a masters in psychology and work as psychologists. What you're looking for is an academic adviser position, and most schools just have their professors do that, they don't hire someone else to do it. It's only a job you need someone to do a few weeks of the year, not full-time.

The best way is to go to your local community college and ask to see their community college counsellor. Ask them, they really are the best people to give you the information you require

You need a degree to work at a community college? Why don't you just become a real college counslor. Btw, it's counselor, not counsler.
