IS THERE ANY JOBS HIRING IN DALLAS, TX?

Elementary Teaching Jobs in Dallas, TX?

  • I graduated in December of 2009 with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies and a certification for grades Early Childhood - 4th grade, but I have been struggling to find a full time teacher position near Dallas, TX. The principals won't talk to me when I call and they will not see me when I turn in my resumes to the schools. The people in the office just say the principals will call if they have an opening. I've applied online to several places around Dallas, and created hundreds of folders with my resume, business card, student teaching evaluations etc. and went to job fairs in the spring. I know they have hired tons of teachers for the new school year, despite the fact that I haven't received one phone call from an ISD. I was a sub in the spring and I am currently working at a private school with 3 and 4 year olds. I have heard that some principals do not like hiring first year teachers, which is pretty ridiculous seeing as there would be no teachers in the world if all principals felt this way. My hopes are pretty much crushed at this point of finding a job in a school district since it is almost August, but so many teachers have told me they got their first job in July/August. I am currently personally emailing all of the principals for the schools that still have openings online. (I have received 1 email back from over a 100 that I have sent out. Even though it said the position has already been filled I appreciated the response.) I really feel if someone would give me a chance for an interview and see my passion for teaching young minds then I would have a job right now. I have back up plans working with pre school age children and of course I can always be a substitute, but at this point what else can I do to try to get a job in an actual school district? If anyone knows of a place that is hiring around Dallas or has any information that would be great!

  • Answer:

I think you are doing more than most people and hopefully someone will be impressed with your enthusiasm and dedication. The only other thing I can suggest is to broaden your scope way beyond Dallas. It is true that many teachers do get hired days before school starts, so there is still time. However, it is also true that schools are just like others in the economy and they are not hiring as many people as they used to but are going to bigger class sizes etc. I am glad you have back up plans, but hopefully you won't need them! You might also talk to the placement office of the school you went to. Often schools/principals will contact the university asking for recommendations for people to teach. Make sure you are on that list and that they know you are still looking for a job.
