What is EC?

What degree or education would I need to teach Home-Ec!?

• I think its called Family and Consumer Sciences now...but how exactly do you go about getting a job teaching Home-Ec?? What degree do you need? They dont exactly offer a home-ec degree.... Anyone who is or was a home-ec teacher....how did you get your job?

  They totally have home ec degrees still--they're just called Family and Consumer Science. I have a General Family and Consumer Science Degree, but at my university you could also specialize in Dietetics/nutrition or Interior Design. Other universities have specializations in Family Studies, etc. I would highly recommend that you get as many hours in FACS as you can. While it is true that some of the information you teach will be everyday common sense stuff that many adults already know, you need to make sure that you still have classes in nutrition, sewing, food preparation, childcare, pregnancy/birth, money management, relationships, etc. As a young professional right out of school, I didn't have much experience with babies or sewing! Also, I would seiously suggest you take as many classes as you can on how to teach FACS. It is completely different than math, english, or your other core classes! It's a great profession--good luck!
