Where do you spend your time in summer?

For elementary school teachers: how much time do you spend in the summer doing work?

• I know you have summers and holidays off, but is there anything mandatory for your job in the summer? If so how much time do you spend on it? (excluding tutoring, summer school, or extra jobs). And do you have work during the winter holidays? If so, what work do you do then and how much time do you usually spend on it?

• Answer:

  I'd say a couple of weeks. Classrooms have to be decorated and set up. Sometimes you have to change rooms and that's a lot of work. Sometimes you have to change grades and that involves a lot of preparation. That shift can take up a good part of the summer. As for winter holidays, if you plan it right there isn't much to do. If you've been silly enough to assign homework to be turned in just before the holiday, then you'll need to spend the time marking. SOME schools end their terms before a holiday and you might have to do report cards.
