What do you think of the No Child Left Behind Act?

What do you think about the No Child Left Behind Act, Do you think it is effective or what?

  • Answer:

NCLB is horrible! It was mandated by Pres. Bush to make sure all public school kids can read and do math (I'm not sure about other subjects.) They only way that the 'powers that be' can know if this is happening is, all the students in the US have to take a yearly test. This test is not done to show how well the student is learning, it is done to show how well the teachers are teaching. The better the scores, the more money the school gets. SO, what happens is the schools 'dumb down' the curiculum to make it easy for all to pass, so they can get more money. The school teaches ONLY what is on these tests so the students can MEMORIZE, not LEARN, what is on the tests so they can get good scores so the school can get more money. Gone are the days of learning for yourself, problem solving, creative learning, etc. The students are spoon fed information like robots so the school can get more money. Some schools are chaning the wrong answers to right ones; changing some low scores to high; not reporting the lowest scores. and PAYING students to get good grades! When these students grow up, they will not know how to think for themselves. They will have to have everyone else tell them what to do. This is communism sneaking into our country. HITLER, anyone?? The sad thing is, MOST parents in the USA don't know all this is going on. They think the schools are being held accountable for teaching the children correctly. This is NOT happening.

No. All it does is play to the lowest common denominator, and dumb down education. It's a disservice to kids.

Lol. Sorry, I just have to toss this out there... Does any one else find it funny that someone is complaining about the state of education in America, then comparing it to both communism and Hitler? I mean, I realize that those two words are the fall-backs for insulting policies in the U.S., but really? Apparently history, politics, and economics weren't high on the list when you were in school. Must be an NCLB kid.
