How do I become a teacher in the UK?

How do you become a primary/key stage one teacher in the uk?

  • im so confused and everyone is telling me different things- you have to go to college, you have to go to university blah blah and i can't find anything on the internet. what i need to know is what GCSE's do you need to become a primary or key stage one teacher in the UK. what, if any A levels and then what course in university or college and which one is best? thanks for your help and sorry if i come off sound stupid!:)

  • Answer:

It doesn't matter what GCSE's you do as long as you pass English, Maths and Science with a C, and even if you don't it's not a massive problem as you will have to do similar tests later on when you are closer to becoming a teacher, but obviously it will be easier then if you pass them now. A level wise follow your heart, do whatever you want to do. It doesn't really matter. I did English lit, Biology, Computing and R.E, but if I had done other subjects it wouldn't have made a difference. After A levels you have 2 options. You can either go to university and do a degree in Education with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or you can go to university and do whatever degree you want to do followed by a PGCE in Primary Education. I did the latter. I completed a degree in Psychology and then a PGCE in Primary Studies. I have now been teaching for 3 years. If you want more information I suggest you check out www.tda.gov.uk. Hope this helps.
