What is the function of an aromatic ring?

Function of Piston Ring ?

  • What is the function of Top Ring , Second Ring & Third Ring(Oil Ring) in a Piston ?

  • Answer:

In engine blocks piston moves up & down to make compression. For a very minute gap in between cylinder block and piston, the compression leaks out. to prevent leakage piston rings are fitted onto piston, as the rings are slightly larger in diameter than the piston. The piston rings are circular in shape with cutting on one side like a circlip. To further prevent compression.leakage through the cut, various rings are mounted over the piston, which are known as top ring and second ring etc.The cuts of top ring and second ring are on different sides. The oil ring is like two rings joined at different places and gap in between. This gap carries oil and lubricates the walls of cylinder block and piston to prevent them from friction and being worn out soon.

in engine block assembly the pistons are assembled with piston rings made of rubber material to wipe the lubricating oil and to prevent the wear of piston onside the cylinder..
