How do I become an art teacher in the UK?

  • What educational route do you need to take?

  • Answer:

You take full advantage of your talent, try and get A Level Art if you can. Apply to do some sort of art course, either art, art history or applied art, if such a thing exists. Try and get some teaching experience during your course, talk to teachers, tutors or lecturers at school/college in relation to this. If you get that far, consider applying for a PGCE course in your final year (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) to get your teacher qualification. You may need to decide if you want to do this at primary school, secondary school or third level level. Good luck

I am a primary school teacher who teaches the whole curriculum but specialises in Art. I did a B.ed degree at uni then got a teaching job. To be a secondary teacher it is much the same route

You need an Art degree and then a PGCE... Or you take a 4 year BEd degree specialising in Art.
