How can I get into college if I am not an english speaker?

China - teaching English (I don't have the qualifications needed to get a work visa)?

  • I am over 30yrs of age, and do not hold a bachelor's degree. So I am unable to get a work visa in China, at least that's what my research on the net shows me. I have some savings, and want to go to southern China for the school year. I only have one year of college. Which is a certificate in Early Childhood Education. I am willing to volunteer my time in exchange for appropriate room & board with the other teachers. I would prefer though to find a way to get paid while working. Is it impossible without the right education and right age? I am a native tongue english speaker, born and raised in Canada, spent the last 5 years working in the U.S. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any information on work visas or volunteer situations. I can not afford to pay to volunteer like some websites I see. Thanks for all your help

    No degree necessary, just get over on a Toursit Visa and play it by ear. I was just in Yangshuo and I saw at least six schools that were hiring on the spot

I hate to say this; if you are a white, that shouldn't be a problem. The ironic discrimination is very apparent there .'cos of the ignorance and lack of exposure to equal opportunities. The Chinese there don't understand the word discrimination or racism. There are 2 ways to do this. One is to apply to some of the private schools (not university or college), and I can guarantee you that once they see your photo and that you are a white, you will be offered a job. All they have to do is to send you a Letter of Invitation (not employment), so you can get a tourist visa at the Chinese Embassy wherever you are. Once you get there, the school can easily revert it to a work permit which is good enough. You don't need a residence visa and the so-called foreign expert certificate .'cos you don't have the proper qualifications. The other way is to go to Hong Kong and you can easily get a 6 month or 1 yr. business visa through a travel agency (1 day service), and then go to China and look on your own. G'luck!

I lived and worked in China for a few years, with my family. I was a visiting professor at a university in Beijing. Yes, my friend, you need a degree. Otherwise you will not be able to justify being what the Chinese call 'A Foreign Expert', which is how they class you in order to get the Z visa you need to live and work there. So, I suggest you do your best to get back to college, if you can, and finish off your studies. PS China is very beautiful, and the Chinese very gentle, clever and friendly people. They get a lot of bad press.

hi if you are Canadian, then you should go to Chinese embassy in Ottawa and I am sure they will help you better. I think u will get visa easy and u can go and check by yourself. if u once go to China, i don't see any problem for you to get job. they love to learn English and they are crazy about English language and white people. but to be honest for best results you should contact Chinese embassy Ottawa Canada.
