Job for a non-profit organization?

I am 19, have been offered through organization in china ESL job?

  • I applied for many ESL jobs and an organization in Beijing wants me to come out, they provide housing for 15 days while i train with them and then we go to schools in area they work with for interviews to get a job. I need to make decision ASAP, like in a couple days. I can get TEFL I have been working on it, but what is holding me back, is that even though i signa contract, they said I should have no probelm finding a job, yet I am19 with no degree, and if I did not get a job than I would be down 1000 dollars for airfare PLUS downa job, because i need to give a 30 day notice to my job now if i will do this. (i am working entry level job and this ESL job will be better for my career and pay better) What should I do? I really want to do this but I dont know if ill be able to get the job???

  • Answer:

1- Don't believe any "guaranteed job" advertisement. 2- You now need a degree to work in China, so you'll probably won't be able to obtain a work permit. 3- Many schools from China and other Asian countries hire you with the right qualifications before you even arrive there and they will provide you with the work permit, accommodation, and sometimes a signing bonus that you can use toward your airfare. Many schools also offer return airfare when you complete the contract and a signing bonus to renew the contract. 4- Never pay for job placement assistance, especially in countries where it's easy to find a job with the right qualifications http://www.freetefljobplacement.com. 5- Wages are increasing in China, so find out how much you can earn ($800 to $1,400 at entry level depending on the area and up to $2,000 with some teaching experience) before committing to a low paying internship.

Here's a story you make the decision: Do not make a decision based on lack of time. Take your time since China is pretty large and its opportunities in it. let them stick the TEFL certificate up theirs... anything that is free has no value. Buy and do the TEFL on your own; I did mine at i-to-i.com and I was so happy with their lessons. They said you should have no problems finding a job... they didn't tell you the other half of the sentence... it should be something like "you should have no problems finding a job at this rate (getting underpaid)" Did anyone tell you about processing visas in China? especially in Beijing? If you'll be working on a business or tourist visa I wouldn't recommend that to you since you should have your proper visa... another thing to think about is let's say that they issued your visa then you started working for them, then you want to quit... they can simply cancel your visa and not give you a "letter of release" an important document needed for your next employer's visa process... I suggest you study these issues before coming here. If you still wanna go there and try them do that but if I were you, I would line up 20 plan Bs so that I am on the safe side. 20 not 3 :) Good luck mate.
