How to teach grammar above TOEFL?

  • I have a student I tutor (ESL student) who I have been teaching TOEFL grammar level. They say it is too easy for him and they want more advanced grammar. But TOEFL is the highest grammar level I have taught before. Anybody have some good resources or suggestion to teach advanced grammar to an ESL student??

  • Answer:

    TOEFL is the test for readiness for university work. There is no grammar higher than that. What your student may mean is that they have "seen" all the grammar before, but that doesn't mean they can use it. Give them some writing tasks at university level. They need to practice using the language they know in context, not in TOEFL exercises.
