What are the steps to become a PE Teacher?

  • So my dream job is to become a PE teacher. I am 16 years ( year 11 ) going to college next term. So i just wanted to know whats the steps that i need to take in order to become a PE Teacher. I want to know the following: What courses i need to take at college Where do i go after college Etc

    In the US you would follow the college prep track of courses in high school. Choose and apply to a university that offers a physical education major. There will be a plan of courses that you will have to follow each semester that include education courses taken by all education majors such as history of ed and child psychology, plus core classes required of all college students and some electives. There will be many PE classes to take in all areas since when finished, you will be certified K-12. You will have a semester of student teaching. When you graduate you will take a standardized test such as the Praxis to prove your knowledge. When you receive your teaching license, you can apply for a teaching job, get hired and you are on your way! Start now by finding a college that offers a PE major. Check the website of your state Dept of Ed for a list of colleges/universities that offer teacher education. Make plans to visit some with your parents on the special tour days that they offer for prospective students so that you can make the best choice about where you want to apply.

In Australia I did a bachelor of human movement science & education- it is a double degree- 4 years full time & you have to choose one other subject of study- most people choose Mary's or English! Do not bother with dodgy Tate courses and diPlomas! There is much more support through uni with the same people fOr 4 years- however if u are unemPloyed in Australia the government will pay for u to got to Tafe & then you wont have $1000's in HECS fees!

maybe do a fitness cource at uni and get become a teachers aid at a school which will give you first hand experience
