How Do I become A+ Certified?

I'm certified to teach K-6 in PA but I want to teach middle school how do I become certified?

  • I currently have a degree in elementary education (K - 6) and I am having a difficult time finding a job in PA and the surrounding states. I would like to span my teaching options into middle school, above 6th grade. How do I get myself certified to teach 7th and 8th grade.

  • Answer:

Middle school teaches need at least a minor (and, increasingly, a full major) in the subject(s) they teach. Your K-6 degree won't let you teach 8th grade science, for example, unless you took enough science classes as an undergrad (24 credits, about.) Some schools offer 6-8 certifications, or you may want to return to school and get endorsed to teach a subject. That will require another major.

Other answers

You can still apply at middle schools for 6th grade teaching positions. Or you could go back to school and get your teacghing certificate for middle grades.
