What is a substitute for shellac?

What do you think of this substitute teacher?

  • I would like to hear what you think of this substitute teacher my daughter had today... This teacher had it easy for her last class of the day, as they were finishing up a movie with notes. After the movie was finished, the substitute proceeded to not know what to do. My daughter has had this substitute many times before, and she not been able to come up with something for the students to do before. Well, she walked out of the classroom for 15 minutes, came back got on her phone and the whole class could hear her, the class was out of control throwing pens, water bottles, laying on the floor and everyone was texting on their phone. But wait, it doesn't stop there. The substitute whipped out her iPad and played games on it for the next half hour. My daughter sat in class for and hour straight with nothing to do. Then, the substitute whipped out a book-read, then left the class again for ten minutes, finally ending with eating food and letting students go and disrupt other classes. This substitute could of: 1. went on her ipad or computer and read some trivia engaging the class...isn't that what school is for?. 2. actually taught the class something that she may have learned. 3. not leave, not make personal phone calls in front of the class, not play games on her ipad, not read personal books, and defiantly not read personal book and let students go to other classes. Where are tax dollars for schools going? Even my daughter's real teachers are on their laptops constantly, and not teaching the class what needs to be taught. My daughter is in school to learn, not goof around for 4 out of 6 hours of the day. If I would've acted like that substitute teacher at my job today guess what? I would have been fired.

  • Answer:

Incompetent is the word that comes to mind. I suggest you contact the building principal and share what you know; also, have other parents in the class do the same. Only by being united will the building principal most likely hire a different substitute teacher in the future. If you still can't get results, you'll have little choice but to go over the principal's head. After all, throwing objects can result in injuries and the school district should not be exposed to that liability.

She sounds like she doesn't really care about teaching. She could at least have made an effort for them to do something constructive. If there was no set work then she should have contacted someone and got another teacher to supervise when she wasn't in the room. I would let the school know about her. I did this with my teacher once (who was absolutely terrible) and they secretly observed one of her lessons from outside the classroom and she was fired soon after. Good Luck :)

There is absolutely no reason for a substitute teacher to do that to any class, no matter how they behave. However, every parent who had a child in that class should report that substitute teacher to the school principal. You should your description of the activities of that teacher from your Yahoo Question directly to the principal with your daughter beside you and hand it to him/her or read it. He/she will act immediately on it. You will not hear what action the principal will take, but you can be sure that substitute teacher will never again be called to work in your school. Thank you for acting as a concerned and responsible parent to your daughter and to education world-wide. Good luck.

THe parents need to report the substitute to the principal and the school district office (HR department) Substitutes are per diem employees and don't have tenure or benefits. This one can easily be taken off the list of approved substitutes, but there has to be a complaint filed first. No one can do anything if they aren't told about it. The regular class teacher usually asks the kids for "reports" on a sub, but it could be that this woman is a friend of hers or something. I don't know what state you're in, but in many states these days substitutes are just in it for the money. They don't know the curriculum and many have no classroom experience. This one should be reported, but you can't do it on Yahoo.

In my opinion, you should secretly video that substitute teacher's activities. Then get every parent to sign a petition asking for either a different sub and/or permanent teacher since you state that the permant teacher also practices unethically. A students mind is a terrible thing to waist. Bring the video and the petition to the principal. If you have to, go higher until you get satisfactory results. There are mini video recording devices on iPhones. There is a store that I use called ' The Spy Store'. They sell fake pens that have a video camera in them. These are for the schools that do not allow iPhones in school. I am a semi-retired UN Advisor of Education. I have been to various schools around the world. I have personally seen the teachers you talk about.
