Is this a good persuasive essay?

  • I go to an online school. My teacher will NOT accept this paper.. And it's only for 10th grade English. Can I please get some constructive criticism on this? Thank you! If Humans Have Rights, Why Can't Animals? Over 65 billion animals a year are abused, killed for food, entertainment, clothing, and inhumane breeding. More than 100 million animals every year suffer and die in cruel chemical, drug, and cosmetic tests, biology lessons, medical training exercises, and curiosity-driven medical experiments. Exact numbers are not available due to the fact that mice, rats, birds and cold-blooded animals--who make up more than 95 percent of animals used in experiments--are not covered by even the minimal protections of the Animal Welfare Act and therefore go uncounted. Most abuse cases are not reported, so the actual amount of unethical treatment to animals is unknown. Many studies have found a link between cruelty and other forms of interpersonal violence. 13% of intentional animal abuse cases involve domestic abuse. In one study, 70% of animal abusers also had records for other crimes. Since animals have no voice to be heard, people and companies use that to their own advantage. Some people say “animals feel no pain” and “animal testing is necessary”. But, in fact, they do suffer. What will it take for animals to have rights? Arguments against animal rights are most likely to come from people who are making a profit out of animals, people who feel that their interests would be majorly conflicted if animal rights were granted, and people who are involved in hunting sports. The companies that use animals for testing claim that it's beneficial for humans. Statistics show most research is for drug testing, surgical procedures, medical equipment, cosmetics, and household products. In their opinion, if animal rights were approved, it would be more of a negative affect than a positive. In reality, there are no arguments against animal rights that are valid. Since the animals in the testing laboratories are kept in unnatural conditions and in pain or distress, they often produce inaccurate, inconsistent or misleading results. Many of the tests that are conducted by the corporations are not even required by law. Every year for the sake of “fashion”, the global leather industry slaughters more than a billion animals and tan their skin and hides. Many of these animals suffer from the horrors of factory farming. Nearly a million seals worldwide are subjected to painful and lingering deaths. 18 red foxes are killed to make just one single fox-fur coat, and 55 minks to make a mink coat. More than half the fur in the U.S. comes from China, where millions of cats and dogs are bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and even skinned alive for their fur. There are millions of animals tortured and murdered worldwide for fancy fur coats for financial gain. Scientists estimate that 100 species go extinct everyday. That's about one species every 15 minutes. Abuse due to the actions of humans does factor into that number. What will be left 10 years from now? There are several ways to resolve the exploitation of animals. For example: Educating the public, judicially at state and federal levels, humane treatment of animals that are being raised for human consumption, be an informed consumer; purchase products that are not tested on animals, and early control of animal population in the wild. At this time, there is no sure solution. Sterilization is being tried in some situations. These ideas combined make a safer and healthier community. We share the planet with our fellow animals, and they have the right to live their own life. We are not allowed to meddle with them just because we can. They enhance our lives in so many ways. The best thing we could do in return is to recognize their own rights. They deserve a lot more than what they actually receive. It can begin with the actions of one person.
