What qualifications do you need to be an elementary teacher?

What qualifications do i need to become a teacher?

  • I really want to be a teacher in a poorer country such as Africa. I am doing Geography, English, Maths, Rs, Science, Art, French and ICT for GCSE. But do i need other qualifications

  • Answer:

You will need corduroy trousers, and leather patches on the elbows of your jumper or jacket. It would be quite a bonus if you have halitosis or smoke a pipe, especially if female. Oh and I nearly forgot - BO.

It depends what age group and what subject you want to teach. If you want to qualify in Britain before going to work overseas for some time then you'll need to have a degree and obtain QTS, qualified teacher status. To do this you'll either need to do a degree that comes with QTS, will usually take you 4 years, or do a degree relevant to what you want to teach and then do a PGCE, a post graduate certificate in education, a one year course you do after you get your degree. You'll need to get at least grade C in English and maths, and if you want to teach at primary school you'll need C in science too.

I want to do something like this too. I know you need above a C in English, Maths and Science and then you need an A-level in one of those subjects too and then whichever other subjects you need. Then you go to University and get a teaching degree, at least that's what it is to be a teacher in the UK, I don't know if it is different for in a poorer country I am afraid. If it is a poorer country with a different language then you will probably need an A-level (or at least GCSE) in that language. I'm sorry I can't be more help, but I hope I helped a bit. Good luck!

Flawed Perfection

To be a teacher in England you need a degree in a core curriculum subject (eg in any of the GCSEs that you're taking). Then you need to do a one year course called the PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education). Alternatively you can do a Bachelor of Education which is a four year university course. I guess that these qualifiications would be accepted in other countries.

THE Answer

A levels and a degree for starters. You can either qualify in Teaching by doing a post grad. course or do a degree with this qualification attached! Sorry I doubt if you can get a job teaching much with GCSEs only although some TEFL teachers have few qualifications. Much more work ahead, sorry.
