Is it difficult to be an unbiased, impartial Human Resources Manager?

Can someone with a MSW work as a teacher or a human resources manager/assistant manager in Melbourne, Florida?

  • I have a Masters Degree in Social Work, would I be qualified to work as a teacher in Melbourne, Florida? If yes, what subject? Also, would I be qualified to work as a Human Resource Manager or Assistant Manager in Melbourne, Florida?

  • Answer:

You would have to get a teacher credential to teach in the public schools. Some communities have specail provisions for mature adults with experiences you can check with the dept of education in Melbourne. Human Resouce Manager would be easy especially if you took administration courses as a part of your MSW. If your MSW focuses on policy and/or administration you will have an easier sell. But if you can sell yourself you should have the chance to get into it. DA

I live in Melbourne and I'm a teacher. You can teach on a provisional 3-year certificate in Florida (that gives you 3 years to do what you need for full certification). You will need to go on line and get an application from the state. They will send you back a very specific list of what you will need to complete. If you really want to teach, then go for it. Brevard County public schools are among the best in the state on standardized tests. Not to discourage you, but unless you want to teach Special Ed, it can be a hard county to get hired into. Because of Kennedy Space Center and other high tech businesses in the area, we don't have a big shortage of teachers. I would recommend you apply at private schools. This would get you experience and give you time to certify. There are some excellent private schools in the area. Again, due to big industry here, Human Resources is also hard to break into if you want big money. Try applying at smaller companies to get experience first and network at SHRM meetings (Society of Human Resource Management) - there is a very active chapter of HR professionals here. Good luck!
