What are some things that you would put on a bulletin board?

What should I put on a bulletin board for 5th graders to intoduce myself?

  • I am going to be teaching 5th grade in the fall for the first time. I am going to make a bulletin board to introduce myself to the students. What should I put on it? What is important for students and parents to know abo0ut me at that age? Please Help!

You could put an acrostic (name) poem with your last name that describes yourself! If you cannot come up with an actual poem, just words that describe yourself for each letter will do. Then I would surround the poem with photos of your favorite things. Be as silly as you can- tell them about your favorite ice cream, cookies, cartoon, etc. Just think of the things that your 5th graders would be interested in instead of the favorite things you might discuss with an adult. If you have any fun photos of yourself- like from your vacation to Disney world for example- be sure to include those too! Kids love animals, so don't forget to show photos of any pets you have!

You have to say stuff about yourself that is interesting. Like funniest thing I did as a kid. Steer clear from anything school related. Don't say "I can't wait till I start TEACHING you this year!" Don't use the word teaching, but you can say, "You all are going to love this year!"

On the board I would just put my name & maybe something about the subject you teach. When actually introducing myself the 1st day of class, talk about your family (married w/kids....kids always interest other kids), talk about pets, & what you like to do. Most of these kids have been brought up together & HATE the "now let's go down the line & say something about ourself". But I would offer "Now would anyone like to ask me any questions or tell me anything about you?" Good luck & have a great year!

Is your school district doing Thinking Maps? It's a series of mapping information to help kids to organize what they've read or how to tell someone else something. There's a basic Thinking Map you make to describe yourself would be good, and then each student could make their own to be able to share with classmates, or a partner. Here's a website to help you: http://www.nhcs.k12.nc.us/htree/Curriculum/ThinkingMaps.html Good luck!

I would put some pictures of your family, pets, books you like, music, etc. on the board. That gives a more indepth picture of who you are. Maybe even include any trips that you took this summer. A lot of kids are visual and the pictures will pique their interest. Have a great year!

There are lots of activities on-line that you can use---------also have something that will incorporate your students into the bulletin board Good luck!!!
