How to ask for medical leave?

How to ask professor to leave class early?

  • my college class ends at 255. but she usually talks until 3. i need to leave early at 230. how would i word the email im going to be sending her? do i ask her permission [bc either way, i have to leave early] or do i rather tell her. like, do i say "can i leave at 230" or "i need to leave at 230" also, do i tell her the reason why in the email or leave it out unless she asks in her reply. the reason is that my job, which is usually on the days i dont have her class, requires me to be there just this one day, which coincides with her class. this would, most likely, be a one time thing.

  • Answer:

Dear Professor X I would like to let you know that I will be leaving class early on (month/date) at 2:30 PM. My job has asked me to come in to cover a shift. This is a one-time issue and I do not expect to miss any other class time. I thought it would appropriate to give you the courtesy of informing you of this situation. Please let me know if there are any notes or other class material I can access for the period I will be missing. Thank you for your understanding, student name.

Choco . . . has the correct response, but I wouldn't ask the teacher to go out of her way to tell you about notes and such. Instead, ask a classmate to fill you in. I don't know your teacher's policy on missing 25 minutes of class, but have something (research, essay, etc.) prepared ahead of time and give it to her before class as a way of showing good will and your initiative to try to make up the missed class time.

Don't ask, because she's not going to give you permission to miss class. You'll have to make up the work you miss. Just get up and leave and try not to draw any attention to yourself.
