Early Childhood Studies Dissertation.

BA in early childhood studies. What is it?

  • A bachelor of arts in early childhood studies, this qualification what does it enable you to do? Can you teach kids without further qualification? Can you only teach kids upto certain age, if so what age? If you wanted to teach older kids do u need only masters, to progress?

  • Answer:

If you receive a BA in early childhood, in order to become a certified teacher, during your college years you would have to take a certain amount of student teaching hours. You would also have to pass a state teaching exam. Without the state certification you may still teach - usually in a private sector. Most college's that offer a BA in education will make sure you do your field (student teaching) your junior year, and take the teaching exam in the beginning of the senior year. Most states consider early childhood preschool - 3rd grade. For example, in NJ if you have you Pk-3rd certification, you may teach those grades - if you want to teach older children you would need a certification in K-5 or middle grades, or HS. Good luck!

No it sn't a teaching quali. it's for the young child worker. A lot of these are for professionals upgrading their facilities. You will be equipped to understand and work with the agencies working with the young child, not generally within schools, but with agencies which intervene on their behalf etc. Caution: UK info

A BA in Early Childhood Studies focuses on the age range 0-8 years, however it does not give you Qualified Teacher Status. To gain QTS, you would need to take the BA course, then take a one year PGCE in the same age group, which gives you QTS, and allows you to teach I believe the government offers a grant to pay for the PGCE, so you would only pay for the BA course.

This is not a teaching qualification but you can go on to do your H-dip or achieve some other qualification to teach. I would advise you to contact the college where you saw this course, either the admissions office or the faculty and they will be able to give you more information. I really think thats your best bet
