You can try volunteer for organizations like Big Brother's Big Sisters, or Special Olympics if you're interested in working in special ed. For work, try afterschool programs. Many schools offer them and the leaders do activities and homework with the kids. Boy's and Girls Club, YMCA, other youth organizations. Some of these jobs require a HS diploma but I believe there are Junior Leader positions for HS students to work there. I was a teacher but discovered I liked the counseling side of education more. So I went back to school and am now working as a counselor in a public school. Don't forget there are a lot of jobs that let you work with youth not just teacher - counselor, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, behavior specialist, school psychologist. So try to investigate all of them. Good luck! Hope you find a career that makes you happy and suits you. I think it's awesome that you're so young and already trying to explore different fits for you! Wish I was that smart at your age.

Find jobs that you can do that involve children (including middle school children), such as teaching swimming lessons, coaching a sports team, being a camp counselor, etc. Then, investigate teacher-credential or certification programs at the college or university you plan to attend. Expect credential requirements to include numerous standardized tests and mandatory classroom experience prior to a full year of student teaching, in addition to your degree in education or in your teaching subject. Teacher training programs often add a fifth year to college. Familiarize yourself with the services of your campus or school of education career center. They offer job search counseling and will connect you to school districts with openings. I know it sounds rather challenging, but you're still a sophomore in high school, you've got plenty of time to decide if this is what you want to do or not. If you really want to do it though, go for it, you can do anything if you really want to, :)

To prepare in general - Summer jobs working at camps or recreation centers where you'll have to deal with groups of children. Tutoring and babysitting as mentioned. Coaching or volunteering with younger kids. To prepare academically - excel in the subjects you think you'd like to specialize in. Get a Bachelor's in that area, then go for an after-degree program to certify as a teacher. Some universities let students go directly into an Education program, but those people always come out less prepared, in my opinion.

you should specialise in some subject and should add more qualification or certificates in that particular subject. In this competitve world of education, most emplyers want more than one work field to be handled by the teacher. The extra field could be a good knowledge in extra cuicular activities which could help the employer in some other fields required in school. Maybe fields like sports, Music, Yoga etc. may help you as well to impress the employer.

Well you could come and shee me from time to time? hmmm hmm...
This is not the best time to be contemplating that career. School enrollments are dropping and state budgets are shrinking. I haven't even seen a teaching job posted in this state for maybe three years. It is my understanding that any job which is open has more than 200 fully qualified applicants waiting. I know people who have been subbing for almost ten years waiting for an opening. Now, subs are volunteers or teachers with free periods. My best advice is consider your second choice of careers very seriously. The state universities keep griding out teachers with masters degrees but there are no jobs for them.

Tutoring, daycare, camp counseling, youth organizations, volunteering... basically anything that highlights your social skills, leadership abilities, connection with children, and passion for what you do.
