What online computer course will better benefit me?

Missold Computer course :( help needed urgently?

  • Back in 2008 I left school at the age of 16 and decided that I wanted to do a computer course. When I left school I did not achieve good grades due to major family problems and my mum being very ill which meant my attendance was not 100% and there was lack of concentration and I just couldn’t meet deadlines for homework etc. everything I done just went up side down after a lot of googling I came across Home Learning College If I done a course with them I could sit home and do the course I want So I got in contact with home learning college found there number on the website and phoned them for an information pack expecting them to send me leaflets and like a brochure or something like any other college would have prospectus so I knew which course would suite me, After calling the number provided I finally was speaking to a guy who was telling me how he would send me a starter pack and that all I had to pay was £50-60 and I would get a username and password my own tutor some books and a cd delivered to me and all I had to do is sit in front of a laptop as if I am in a classroom and it’s all done at home I could do it whenever I was free, I then told the man on the phone that I would speak to my parents first and then get back in touch as I was a little unsure, the man on the phone said he would call me the same day after an hour but for some reasons stayed on the phone and wanted to start filling out a form by asking questions over the phone, My parents speak very little English so I gave him the answers to his questions and asked if it was okay for me to call him back as I wasn’t too sure what I was doing my self he then insisted he would hold while I spoke as we were half way through the form so I went to next room where my family was and discussed the main parts and as you would gave them the best bits like look dad il be home studying and they deliver everything to the door etc After persuading mum and dad that I really wanted to do this course MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician) I went back and said to the man that I wanted to do it but parents are still unsure, He obviously made it sound even better by pointing out the jobs I could get the money I could be earning people earn 30k+ with courses like this easier to get a job etc, so I agreed. After 4 days of enrolling I still hadn’t received anything through the post I called him again and asked where this pack was? He said he would find out and it should be with me on a Thursday which was the next day. I had a huge van delivering a little box with books and a Microsoft word 2009 CD which was a bit like Huh as I was expecting a cd which was to do with the course not word, So the courier linked to Home Learning college came and asked me to sign few papers so I did, after 3 days of trying to work out where to start and trying to get hold of the guy I was talking to for ages and not being able to get through, I sat there trying to read these books but nothing made sense and after receiving a copy of the signed bit of paper in small writing I realized I had just signed an agreement for a course which was £1500 “Panicked isn’t even the word!” and nothing small so I contacted Home learning college and said I was unhappy and that I felt like I was mis-sold this course and I hadn’t been explained the terms etc I was advised by lady named Karen to send the goods back and that it had to be within the 14 days per terms and conditions and that once they received the goods she would refund the £50-60 charged for the goods and cancel the agreement I sent the books and cd back recorded next day which cost me £13 approx can’t remember exact amount it had been about 7 days so after allowing the 3 days for her to ring me which never happened I rang Home Learning College spoke to Karen who acknowledged the goods coming back but claimed it had been over 14 days which is not true!!! They were counting the days from the date I enrolled up to the day I sent the goods back but I didn’t receive the goods until 4 days later and even if they counted the days from point of me enrolling it still wasn’t 14 days it was 12 after debating over the phone for ages nothing happened with the outcome I then was told that Karen was to discuss this with one of her colleagues further and would be in contact which never happened. then got in contact and was asked to confirm my date of birth name and account number over the phone which I did and they even had my date of birth incorrect on their system I then had to prove my age as apparently I was lying so I sent them copies of my birth certificate and passport which they claim they never received, so I sent them these copies once again but recorded delivery which again they stated maybe it’s gone to a different department and there sure it will get to them as I sent it recorded I then emailed these to them.. but ever since iv been having threatning letters and non stop phone calls Help and advise will be appreciated i am now 19

  • Answer:

Let'sjust say you've been welland truly scammed you should have read ALL the small print and worked out that this was a scam You should have put the phone down on them when their selling techniques got over zealous Report the company toTrading Standards. take notes and copies of all conversations and letters to them, like a dairy of events They may well put a debt collector onto you, so make sure you deal with them promptly quoting all phone calls and all correspondance Jobs that pay 30K are for graduates with years of experience not someone who has done an online course with no real work experience So get the address for your local Trading standards office and start writing to them giving as much detail as possible of dates and their illegal sales techniques EDIT- google MCDST, I just did, it takes you straight to the Microsoft learning centre and tells you who this course is aimed at, and it is someone who is already in employment with 6-12 months experience
