Question about public school buses?

  • Hi there, I have a question about public school buses that I need an answer to. I'm going into the 10th grade and have been home schooled for four years now. I have extremely high grades on my tests (College level) and our family is good friends with the mayor of our neighboring town, so I may be able to get in to a school in the other town. Normally, I would go to the school here, but my mother does not like that school and they don't have a good curriculum, computer classes, or any other "special" courses to take. The problem is, it's a 20 minute drive to the other school and my mom doesn't think it's worth it to drive the whole way over and the whole way back twice each day. However, there is a bus stop about five miles out from where I live, and I was wondering; If I go to that school, is there anyway my mother could drive me to the bus stop and I could be picked up there? Please help, this is the only way I can go. She wants to home school again, and though I've learned a lot, I'm kind of feel like Rapunzel from Tangled. (I have ONE friend. lol) Thank you!

Hello. I've been a teacher for 20 years and as far as I know, as long as you can get TO the bus stop, they are not allowed to "reject you". I wouldn't advise being homeschooled again, because even if you are extremely smart and pass all your tests, high school is a crucial time for learning social skills which can be later used for getting a job. But if your "connections" can get you in, I see no reason why you wouldn't be allowed to use the bus stop. It is public transportation and goes along with you going to that school, so as long as your mother allows you to do it, (though judging by your situation it would unwise of her to say no) you can do it. Good luck getting in to your school.

the mayor shouldn't be able to get you into a school district you don't live in....or aren't eligible to choose under NCLB...... i assume your parents are going to be paying tuition... but if the school accepts you--i don't see why you couldn't go to that bus stop.. any chance there is public transit to get you there? 5 miles could still be more than 10 minutes--maybe even more than 20

Yes, Bus stops are the same going to and from school.
