What are the best camp activities for the youths?

What kind of activities can I do with teens with special needs at summer camp?

  • I have to plan some activities for 13-14 year olds with all kinds if different disabilities. I can do anything I want, within reason, as long as I stay at the camp. The activities need to be twice a day for 5 days a week, and they last about an hour. Any unique, fun, or educational ideas will help a lot! Thanks.

    Pick out some age appropriate books and let them vote on what book you want to read to them. One chapter per session. Then go over in the chapter if the book was exciting, scary, funny and other stuff. Mike Lupica writes juvenile stories that are suppose to be about positive things in life. ------- The group can write in a journal about their day in camp. A lot of students with disabilities have a hard time writing, so this would be a fun way of them keeping up with their writing skills over the summer!

A lot of special kids LOVE music, so maybe you should buy some simple little kid-type music. Get simple instruments, like maracas, barbells, etc. A lot of them also love waving around scarves as well. You could also create simple motions to the songs. They also tend to love crafts, so you can look up craft ideas for little kids online. This is much easier when there are plenty of adults to help them with the crafts. They probably won't mind doing the same songs every day, so you could probably just buy 2 CD's and rotate every other day. Stuff like movies usually won't keep most special needs kids long enough, so if you do use the TV make sure it is 30 minutes or less.
