Answer:
Ok, I'll do this in simple english: Dyslexia is a learning disability. You are born with dyslexia, it is not a disease. You can't catch dyslexia. There is no cure for dyslexia. Signs of dyslexia very from person to person. How professionals can tell that you have dyslexia is that you have a high IQ but you are lagging way behind in reading and writing or math. Dyslexia is when you try to use a part of your brain not made for reading and writing to read and write with. The best way to describe it is like this-- your brain is like the wiring for a light bulb, in a normal brain, the wiring is copper and nicely put together. This wiring is the most simple way to light the bulb. Every time you turn on the switch, the light bulb lights up. In a dyslexic brain, the wiring is not so nice, it has tangled ends and is held together with gum and paper clips and shoe laces. It is the most complex way you can light the bulb. When you turn on the switch, sometimes the bulb goes on and sometimes it doesn't. Hope that helps!

There's nothing wrong with your spelling of dyslexia, you got it right. People with this reading and writing disability think in three dimensions. They remember and learn things in 3-D. They find it difficult to learn to read and write because when you show them something like the letter 'p' they see something else that looks like the letter 'q', or even the letter 'd' or 'b'. So their brain perceives the letter in a back-to-front way, or even upside down. When they come to copy down what you have shown them, they'll write what their brain perceives i.e. 'q' instead of writing the correct answer 'p'. They also have trouble reading text - they'll start reading one line and then go on to the middle of the line below it before they've finished reading the first line. It's a genetic condition - you can't catch it because it's not contagious. It's with you from the time you're born. Signs of dyslexia are what I described above - reading difficulties like seeing letters the wrong way around, and writing difficulties like being unable to correctly copy letters. There's no cure, but you can live a normal, healthy life as a dyslexic person. A girl I went to school with had it and she had to get a special pair of glasses that helped her to read and write. She also had to have reading and writing tutoring as well for a little while. So, if you think that you know someone with dyslexia, then you should get them tested - go to your doctor or local health clinic, they'll be able to help you. Good luck!!

Your spelling is correct. Dyslexia is a learning disability that makes itself manifest primarily as a difficulty with the visual notation of speech or written language, particularly with reading. It is separate and distinct from reading difficulties resulting from other causes, such as a non-neurological deficiency with vision or hearing, or from poor or inadequate reading instruction.[1] This suggests that dyslexia results from differences in how the brain processes written and spoken language. There are many definitions of dyslexia but no consensus. Some definitions are purely descriptive, while others embody causal theories. It appears that ‘dyslexia’ is not one thing but many, in so far as it serves as a conceptual clearing-house for a number of reading skills deficits and difficulties, with a number of causes. [2] Although dyslexia is thought to be the result of a neurological difference, it is not an intellectual disability. Dyslexia is diagnosed in people of all levels of intelligence.[3] [edit]

Simple Definition: Dyslexia is an inherited condition that makes it extremely difficult to read, write, and spell in your native language—despite at least average intelligence. Revised definition :from the International Dyslexia Association Dyslexia is a neurologically-based, often familial, disorder which interferes with the acquisition and processing of language. Varying in degrees of severity, it is manifested by difficulties in receptive and expressive language, including phonological processing, in reading, writing, spelling, handwriting, and sometimes in arithmetic. Dyslexia is not the result of lack of motivation, sensory impairment, inadequate instructional or environmental opportunities, or other limiting conditions, but may occur together with these conditions. Although dyslexia is lifelong, individuals with dyslexia frequently respond successfully to timely and appropriate intervention Research definition :used by the National Institutes of Health Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede growth of vocabulary and background knowledge. Cause of Dyslexia Dyslexia is an inherited condition. Researchers have determined that a gene on the short arm of chromosome #6 is responsible for dyslexia. That gene is dominant, making dyslexia highly heritable. It definitely runs in families. Dyslexia results from a neurological difference; that is, a brain difference. People with dyslexia have a larger right-hemisphere in their brains than those of normal readers. That may be one reason people with dyslexia often have significant strengths in areas controlled by the right-side of the brain, such as artistic, athletic, and mechanical gifts; 3-D visualization ability; musical talent; creative problem solving skills; and intuitive people skills. In addition to unique brain architecture, people with dyslexia have unusual "wiring". Neurons are found in unusual places in the brain, and are not as neatly ordered as in non-dyslexic brains. In addition to unique brain architecture and unusual wiring, f/MRI studies have shown that people with dyslexia do not use the same part of their brain when reading as other people. Regular readers consistently use the same part of their brain when they read. People with dyslexia do not use that part of their brain, and there appears to be no consistent part used among dyslexic readers. It is therefore assumed that people with dyslexia are not using the most efficient part of their brain when they read. A different part of their brain has taken over that function. hope this helps.

At least one form of dyslexia only effects someones reading or writing skills or perhaps their math. It occurs in mild forms that are sometimes undetected for years if at all. I think it's always hereditary but only know what I have read about it.
