So im really stupid with school and stuff, i failed most of my classes this year and im in summer school but i dont think im going a pass anything this time either. i cut school alot, i got a rep to up hold and stuff, but i mean everyone cuts school but for them it dosent really affect them but also when i do actually go to class i really just feel real dumb. i dont understand anything, mostly ever. and also if i ever do i can never do none of the homework at all because i will forget when im home. i go to nyc public schools and the teachers allways says this is the easiest progrems in the country but for me its still hard. like there will be a math problem on the bored and mostatimes i wont even try it cause it all just look like another languagage and stuff. also i know kids that are in different grade classes when they are not in that grade yet and it makes me feel mad stupid, you know? it aint my fault though cause i do try but every year like a month in everything get to fast to me and i lose were we are and then i never get back so i just stop trying cause anybody gets it. especexialy cause the teachers all say its all easy stuff and i just dont try but i just never understand. summer school is a waste of time how do they thing im a learn all that stuff in 2 monthes? ill never pass the regents. plus summer school makes me feel even more dumb because im with all the dumbest people and im STILL stupid. i havent been going alot to it soon because of this and plus i have 10 siblings and my mom and stepdad work(my real dad left) so its not that hard for me to just not go. So some counsalor ment with me like last week and was saying they wanted a put me in special ed? wtf is that im not retarded!!! What exactly is special ed because im not a retard so why would they put me in and then today she mentioned alternative education? what is that?? and how are these different from normal school

Answer:
First of all, quit telling yourself you're stupid! You're not stupid! When people think certain things about themselves, their brain makes sure it becomes true. Special education can mean many things. There are kids of all ages who have trouble understanding what the teacher is trying to teach. There are also teachers who aren't good teachers. With that said, please take any help you can get. In 5 years, you will be thankful you did. Alternative school can also mean many things. Where I live it's a more open school with smaller classes that go at a slower pace. Many of the kids in alternative schools are dealing with exactly what you're dealing with. They get longer breaks between classes to go have a cig and all work is done in class...no homework. I am not sure if it's the same in NY but ask the counselor about it, where it is and if you can go check it out. One more thing...I know you have a reputation to up hold, but I guarantee you many of the people you hang with are having the same problems. Try to remember, what other people think about you is none of your business....what counts is what you think of you! I wish you the best!

It sounds like you need the help, trust me if you need to go into special ed, then go into it, it will really help you. I have never been in that situation, but i know it might sound embarrassing to be in special ed, but if you do this and you start to learn more and more, than you can leave it. And you are lucky for being able to go to summer school, where i am at it is very expensive for kids. Just try special ed and if it helps, then stay in it until you are ready to leave it.

Being in special ed does NOT make a person "stupid" or "retarded". I was in special ed because I could not write a single sentence that made any sense or spell worth a damn. I was also bored with school because school never interest me until I got into college where I actually took courses that interest me (for the most part) and not just any bullsh*t classes that someone else take I should take. In special ed, I got the individual attention that I needed. My special ed teacher not only worked to help improve my writing skills and spelling but she also kept me from making what could have been the biggest mistake of my life; quitting school in the 11th grade. Because of my special ed teacher I not only graduated high school but I eventually accomplished something that only a handful of my "smarter" classmates did: Graduate college with highest honors. Alternative schools tends to focus on "at-risk students. They have a smaller than average class size. Students are required to participate in daily activities. Peer guidance and mandatory parental involvement. Close student-teacher relationship. Due to a better curriculum, the student is usually better prepared for life beyond high school. You just don't want to attend a religious based school because you will not get the help that you need and you will fall even farther behind than you already are.
