    A lot of children focus on word recognition when reading, especially at first. Rereading the same passage again (2nd time to focus on comprehension) can help. Having your child read aloud can help, as can listening to a book on tape while following along, or reading to your child while he/she follows along. Pausing frequently while reading to answer questions or summarize what was read can help. And practice. Lots of practice. Reading is a skill like any other. The more you read, the easier it gets.
