How to become a firefighter?

  • I am 15 years old and i want to become a firefighter. I know that it would be a good idea to become a volunteer firefighter once i'm old enough but i don't know what else to do. I'm a gymnast and cross country runner so i'm strong and have excellent endurance. I'm a girl (like it matters) and i'm fully grown at only 5'2", would that affect my chances? What kind of classes in high school, college, and other programs during the summer should i take? Also, if i become a volunteer firefighter would i be able to leave class for a fire call? I know that firefighters work hard and it's nothing like the movies so i do know what i'm getting into.

    You are 15 year old. You may still grow and you have time to grow. Now, most firefighter are required to attend classes for both fire fighting and EMT. In our area, all firefighters are required to be certified EMT/paramedics. You might want to talk with your local fire department personnel to get more information on what your area requires. "I am Woman Hear Me Roar"! Woman are now equal to men when it comes to firefighters. There are minimum height and weight and physical requirements, but I remember a 5 foot woman on a Lifetime Network movie becoming a firefighter with a waiver. GO FOR IT! DON'T GIVE UP!

Well my mother was a fire fighter and it doesnt take college but i do recomened taking like fire science. you will have better chances at becoming a firerfighter
