What is the importance of GNIIT course?

I m from j&k and its my first sem. of I.T. engineering ,i want to do a course side-wise which would help me in getting good pay scale job.So should i join GNIITor it has no importance.IS there any other good course which can be done parallel with engineering or GNIIT is good-one.
