What is moderate intellectual disability like?

What is the mental capacity for someone with an intellectual disability?

  • My mom teaches a life skills class and sometimes finds it hard to teach the kids since some are "lower" then the others. I'm having a hard time finding a site that gives me and idea of what the students can learn based on their IQ and mental capacity. Any help?

  • Answer:

Whether their intellectual level is not as high as the others you must know that each student learns at their own pace and style. Some students are visuals learners, some are hands on learners, some prefer learning in books, computers, and there is the verbal learner. Your mother might want to experiment on what students do well on her teaching materials. I learn well with visual & hands on teaching. Some of the student may do well if your mother breaks up the tasks. Giving the students to a chance to learn the material, and take their time understand it better. My other suggestion is to have the students who do well in the Life Skills class, buddy up with the students who struggle. Classmates or other peers helping them out will make it feel natural to their learning.
