Can I get SSI for A.D.D?

Can I get ssi for my son that was diagnose with add borderline with a learning disabillity ?

  • He is 10 and was diagnose in school with a learning disability and the neurologyst diagnose him ADD borderline and a learning disability.

  • Answer:

ABSOLUTELY NOT SSI is for SEVERE disabilities... learning disability NEVER fits that definition... ADHD VERY rarely will..definately not borderline.. if your child is able to play similar to his peers, have similar self help skills (getting a snack, bathing, dressing, etc) he should not get SSI SSI is for SEVERE functional impairment.

Most likely not. SSI is designed to assist families caring for children who have disabilities. While severe ADD/ADHD may qualify in some cases, most times it doesn't since the child rarely needs special accommodations (other than maybe at school in which case they may qualify for an IEP). My daughter has down syndrome and the SSI helps cover her therapies (she receives speech, occupational, physical, and feeding therapy each week) as well as helps with her specialists (geneticist, optomolgist, ENT, and cardiologist). The SSI also helps make up the difference so that I can stay home and work with her (or it would help pay for a daycare that could accomodate her special needs). Hope that helps!

Yes you can, but it mainly depends on your income.
