What opportunities do people with learning disabilities have?

• Theirs alot of people who have learning disabilities, and its hard to deal with that. I know because I've lived it. Sometimes I get to the point that I feel rejected. just because im not smart. I just do things differently. Im a slow learner. Even teachers dont want to grade my work and tests because I do terrible. I have a hw class in which a teacher helps me. But it is still difficult for me. Iv'e been called names like 'retarded" . and I felt so bad. Like my self esteem went down, I didnt want to do anything. But my mom was their and supported me .and I got up ! and im not gonna let anyone put me down!

  Good for you jojo! Sadly many people with LD often, have low self esteem & self confidence, due to the LD and lack of support. But anyone with a learning disorder can do anything, if they have to proper support from family, friends and teachers. There any many people who have a great career because they refused to give up on themselves, despite their having a LD or some sort. I struggled all the way through school and eventually failed my final year of high school, I did not learn to read until I was 14, had trouble grasping maths, poor memory, sequencing skills etc. When I was 30 I learnt I was dyslexic, so I went back to school to gain qualifications, thankfully I had a few really good teachers & lectures, who supported me, at one stage I nearly gave up, because it was REALLY hard, but a teacher & lecturer would not let me, instead they reduce my study load, extended assignments if I needed it, made sure I had a note taker, and a tutor to help me. I am now a qualified Youth & Disability support worker with over 16 years in the field, and the last five years a teacher, I use my LD to support students with LDs, especially those with dyslexia, and support teachers who are willing to support students with a LD.
