Can you help me find a high school scholarship?

Where can I find help for my 15 year old son, who has autism?

  • He is high functioning. He is going to school in a special needs school right now but is supposed to be in high school and cannot continue going to this school. I need to know what is available in the Atlanta area as far a as education, social skills, etc. I want to find some place where he can feel accepted and wanted and make friends. I also need help finding what funding is available in GA for special needs. I have been looking online but am feeling overwhelmed with everything that is out there. I have the SB10 scholarship money and that is how I was able to put him in private school. I know public school has a lot to offer in this area but I am worried about the bullying and teasing that he most probably will face. The other options that look good for him are so expensive. Please help!

    The best source for information would be his immediate caregivers, and perhaps a community of parents who have kids with autism - in a city the size of Atlanta, there's bound to be some support community. I'd guess his special needs school would be the best place to start looking for such a thing. If there isn't such a community, start one.

You can go to the department of special education. Is you son being mainstreamed now? look online to see what the state of Ga. has to offer for students with special needs. My opinion is that your son needs to stay under the special education programs to prepare him and protect him from looseing some of his rights. Also the bullying is kids that has not been taught that kids with special needs are humans and that they have a right to be taught just like them.
