Are ABA Therapists in high demand?

Where can I find a website for placing ads and locating ABA therapists for kids with autism?

  • Looking for people who have had training in the field of applied behavior analysis or have had a class(es) in ABA. We need people to help run an ABA program for our twin daughters with autism (home program). We live in East Texas.

  • Answer:

When we needed to hire ABA therapists for our son, we contacted Monster.com and used a service of theirs (formerly called JobTrak) to solicit student candidates with some ABA training, child development majors, psychology majors, and/or education majors from various colleges and universities near our home. We hired about 8 ABA therapists over the three years our son was in therapy (at any given time, he had 4-5 therapists working with him per week) and had success using this method. Also, if you have a weekly PennySaver or similar free publication that is distributed by mail in your area, we had success with that as well. I'm happy to say our son has almost totally recovered from autism, and I wish you the best in your search for ABA therapists. You may also want to check out these websites: www.centerforautism.com and www.tacanow.com for further ideas.

www.abainternational.org has a section to find board certified behavior analysts near you. HOWEVER, just because someone is board certified doesn't mean that they know what they're doing. You really want to be looking for someone who has experience from the tutor/1:1 therapist level and up. You may already know that if they're not focusing on language and play skills, you've also probably got a problem, and if they don't address all interfering behaviors with functional assessments, then you're really in deep. The university of north texas, Denton, has a very well known program in behavior analysis so I'd guess you'll be able to find some people in your general neck of the woods. Good luck.

Here are a couple of sites for you to start your search: http://www.texaschildrenshospital.org/Parents/TipsArticles/ArticleDisplay.aspx?aid=1568 http://rsaffran.tripod.com/aba.html If these people are too far away from you, they should know about service providers closer to where you live.
