What is SAS?

What is the minimum years of service in the SAS?

• I have ‘googled’ it and I can't find any info on it :( I am 16 (doing biology, chemistry, maths, further maths and economics A levels) and will do a 3-4 year degree (Physics or some other 'hard-science' subject) before joining the Royal Marines as an officer (hopefully!). I would love the join the SAS, as unorthodox as a move from a naval based regiment to an air regiment is; I don't want to join the SBS. So I will be around 25/26? When I am able to apply for the SAS (my source says, please correct if not true). I ask what the minimum service is because after I have served my queen and country (will probably be king and country by the time I join!!!) I want to study medicine and I was worried about the time gap between studying my A levels and medicine. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the length - I decided I would rule out unnecessary responses as that seems to be the general feedback on any questions! Also please excuse any grammatical errors; I don’t pride myself on being the most proficient of ‘typers’!!!

  When I first saw your question,I was a little unsure of your reason for posting it,but after reading your explanation it became very clear,there is no minimum service,that is if you ever got as far as passing selection,after going over you plans for your future,I would come out after a short term commission, you do not need the Regiment bit,it would most definitely change your conception of life,and to then go on to a medical career,which to my way of thinking would be a most rewarding outcome of a very well planed out life,In any event I would like to wish you a rich and rewarding life,may your God go with you.......D.
