Looking to become a firefighter?

How do I become a California Firefighter?

• I am 17 years old and a senior in high school. I have a 3.0 gpa and have always had a desire to become a firefighter in california. I am looking into an EMT class through the ROP center at my school but i would really like some advice as to where to go from here. I am not interested in this career because of the hours or the heroic title i simply want to help people. Answers from experience would be nice, thank you.

  You are heading in the right direction. *EMT is a must.. Paramedic is something that should be highly considered it will greatly increase your chances of being hired. *Get an AS/BS in Fire Tech/Fire Science it will help you in both the hiring process and in moving up in rank once hired. *Take a Firefighter-1 Academy. even though you will still have to go through a departments academy it will help that you have the basics down already. *Test ALL OVER THE STATE, and in our neighboring states too if you can, it is highly competitive to get a paid position it will take time and lots of testing and interviews.
