Is there such a thing as boarding house pregnancy syndrome?

Can boarding school help a teen with Asperger's syndrome socialize and gain independence?

  • I'm 15 and I have Asperge'r syndrome. I've bin dying to go to boarding school. Boarding school is an environment where I have more responsibility and I get to make more choices on my own without mom and dad reminding me. This will let me become more independent. There are plenty of friends I can make and socialize with them. Here's a video on boarding school. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6HIWw9NTlg Is boarding school a good idea?

  • Answer:

I also have Asperger's syndrome (among other things) and I personally had always wanted to go to a boarding school as well but could never afford it. My boyfriend attended a boarding school for dyslexia and it helped him a lot. It wasn't just the fact that they specialized on his problems, it was because he felt comfortable there. It doesn't matter where you go to school, as long as you feel comfortable there, then it would help. The first thing you need to help you socialize (especially with Asperger's syndrome) is confidence, if you're not comfortable somewhere you probably wouldn't attempt socializing well. If the boarding school is a comfortable place for it, then it will definitely help you.
