I'm a senior in my high school, and I already applied for FAFSA and i got Cal Grants. I just knew about Pell Grant 1 month ago, and i don't know how to apply for Pell Grant. Do i have to get a form to apply......? I want to know who is eligible for Pell Grant and the way to apply for it. Also, the deadline for Pell Grant!

Lindsay: When you completed the FAFSA application, you received a Student Aid Report that included an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) score. The EFC score is a financial aid index that can be used by any financial aid office to compare your family's financial need to the need of any other student at your school. The US Department of Education offers a number of different financial aid programs - some of those programs are only available to students and families with "exceptional need". These types of programs are called "need-based aid" programs, and the Pell Grant is the largest aid program of this type. So how do you know if your application demonstrated 'exceptional need'? If your EFC score was 4041 or less, you have been classified as an "exceptional need" applicant. On the other hand, if your score was higher than 4041, you are not eligible for any of the need-based aid programs, including the Pell Grant. Once you have completed the FAFSA, there is nothing else that you need to do to be considered for all of the Federal Student Aid programs. The financial aid office at your school will receive a report from the Department of Education (it's called an ISIR), that tells your school about the results of your FAFSA analysis. The aid office will use your EFC score to determine what forms of aid you qualify for, and what forms of aid they can offer you. They will tell you about your aid package in a letter known as the "aid offer letter". If you did not demonstrate "exceptional need", you will still be offered at least one type of Federal Student Aid - the opportunity to borrow from the Stafford lending program. The Stafford is the largest aid program, and a lot more than 50% of all US college students borrow from that program. So - you've already "applied" for the Pell Grant, which is just one of many forms of Federal Student Aid, offered through the US Department of Education. If your family has "exceptional need" (as determined by your EFC score), you will be automatically be awarded a Pell Grant. If your EFC was higher than 4041, you can not qualify for the Pell. You will find out all about your aid offer in a letter that you will receive from the financial aid office at your school - they are the people who are responsible for creating that offer for you. Good luck - I hope this helped.

Once you apply through FAFSA and have a record of your EFC and how much you make FAFSA will let you know. Most likely if you and parents don't make much and EFC is "zero," you are eligible. Once the school has received FAFSA application they may select you for a verification process and ask for some tax returns, etc. Then about a week before fall semester you will accept your financial aid award and most likely if your parents dont make much you'll be offered a pell grant and a subsidized loan. Also once you apply through FAFSA check your student banner system account to keep an update on whether you have received any grants or SUBSIDIZED loans!! Good luck! DON'T FORGET IF YOUR OFFERED AN UNSUBSIDIZED LOAN YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY BACK LOAN INTEREST.

complete the FAFSA. Make sure you have your parents tax returns or your own tax return (if you ever had a job and earned money hourly). Do it online and read the fine print carefully, the FAFSA should give you the PELL if you say you want it. Print out your SAR (Student Aid Report) and see if you got it.
