My son has Indian in him what percent does he need to get a free scholarship?
-
I heard that if you have a certain about of Indian in your blood you can quality for a free scholarship. Is that true? How do I find out more about it?

Answer:
My tribe requires you to be enrolled. The scholarships arent really free. Unless you pay them back after you graduate you have to go back to the tribe and work for them for 5 years to pay the loan back.

IT IS TRUE ABOUT HAVING A CERTAIN AMOUNT AND BEING ELIGIBLE FOR AWARDS. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE ONE I'M IN COLLEGE RIGHT NOW AND TWO I HAVE NATIVE AMERICAN IN ME TOO. UNFORTUNATELY I CAN'T SAY HOW MUCH BECAUSE I HAVEN'T HAD THE CHANCE TO LOOK INTO IT ENOUGH MYSELF. BUT I WILL SAY THAT I'VE HEARD,AND I SAID HEARD ,THAT IT'S A QUARTER. HOWEVER YOU CAN ALWAYS GO TO OR CALL THE SCHOOL WHERE HE'S ATTENDING OR MAY ATTEND AMD ASK THEM. THEY'LL PROBABLY HAVE THE ANSWERS TO MOST OF YOUR QUESTIONS.

it depends on the tribe...some do & some dont offer scholarships and each has its own rules on % and other things like if you actually live on tribal land or not, income, criminal record, etc.....determine the type of indian and then contact the nearest tribal council. First thing is improve your english, you mean to say that your son has some percentage of Indian blood in him ? I've never heard of such a thing. Why don't you apply for aid or scholarship instead, like others, for your son ?

There are several websites that have scholarship information. A good source of such information is also the financial aid office of a cllege or university and the advising office of most public high schools. Try google, typing in scholarship and the tribal name. Some Indian scholarships require a 1/4th tp 1/2 Indian ethnicity. I have seen a few that require 1/8th and as little as 1/10th. Most such scholarships do require some authentification of ethnicity and most scholarships, regardless of the source pay only a portion of college costs.
