Can I get into the University of Texas?

How can i get enough money in financial aid to go to the University of Texas at Austin?

  • Im a high school junior out of state who has been wanting to do to UT since i've started high school. Only problem is we have virtually no money. Our grandparents are paying $10,000 a year to pay for me and my brother to go to high school. Is there any way to get financial aid that will pay for most if not all of the costs to go to UT for two years?

  • Answer:

Well, you go to a public high school starting NOW and strike a deal with the grandparents. Use the 20K they saved for your expensive private high school and spend it on something more important, like your first year of college. The problem with this plan is after a year or so, your stuck in the same situation as you are now. No money to continue. Out of state tuition is only for those who have money to throw away.. Why go to a place that costs 10X more when the guy sitting next to you doesn't have to? You wouldn't drive across the state line to buy a gallon of milk just to pay more would you? The only way you'll get enough financial aid to go to an out of state school is for you to borrow the max in federal Stafford loans (5,500 as a dependent freshman) and your parents to take out a parent PLUS loan. Without them borrowing for you, you'll never get enough fin aid to pay for everything. (Unless you get a really good scholarship). Scholarships are given based on good grades and admission test scores.... so you'd need those to qualify!!! Both you and your parents would have to come to the understanding they would have to borrow for you every year for four years or more or you'd be in the exact same situation as if you'd have done the same with the grandparents. Maybe the grandparents could agree to do the first year, your parents the second year and another relative the third.... Just have it planned out or start at a local Community college to save money and have the folks and the grandparents kick in when it is REALLY needed. When you are a junior and senior and you know you won't have to drop out because of lack of money... you'll be so close if you make it to your junior and senior years.

Student line of credit from banks. Normally it would need you and a co-signer. You are expected to pay back the interest as you are studying and pay back the rest after you have completed your studies. We have government loans in Canada, don't know about US. There should be many many grants and bursaries once you are in university for low income. And scholarships awarded for good grades, may require a 500 word essay. I have friends that have no money, they work and study part time. It ultimately takes them 7 or 8 years to finish university. But hey, you still get to finish! You'll be rich after you absorb that knowledge.
