I have a school loan, well I took a semester off.

Stafford Loan Refund...Is my school embezzling my excess funds!?!?!?

  • Sorry if this is complicated, but I'm going to try to simplify it as best I can. My total tuition for this semester is 3,400$ I received a Pell grant in the amount of 2,775$ leaving me with a balance of 625$. I also took out a Stafford loan (subsidized & un-subsidized) in the total amount of 3960$. My school picked out this amount for me, It is their policy that they determine funds needed for you. According to my AES account & my Fed Loan service account I have loan out in the amount of 3960$ for this semester, but according to my student account at my school I still owe 625$. I have called the school asking why I have this balance, and they have told me that my loan funds have not come in. I called fed loan, and after being on the phone for an hour I finally talked to a representative who told me the funds were sent over on the second. My semester is over in a month and I have yet to receive the 3300$ refund I am entitled to. Does anybody know what I can do? This is money I will eventually have to pay back that is floating somewhere in my schools bank account. I'm beyond frustrated...

Sounds like maybe you haven't completed all the paperwork required at your financial aid office. If so, the school may have had to send your loan money back to the lender. You need to make an appointment with someone there and go in to talk to them about it. ASAP.
