Is it possible to start college fresh after dropping out?

How to go back to college after dropping out and having to still work full time?

  • K, so I'm in no position now to start paying off my old college debt, but I am curious as to if there is still hope to go back and actually complete college. I wanted to wait a year after high school and yes I would have actually went! I didn't wait though because of pressure that everyone put on me and I dropped out within the first 2weeks due to knowing I was not yet responsible enough nor emotionally stable enough to continue wasting government/everyone's money and the schools time. Then I tried to go back again a semester later and ended up doing the same thing. Now I owe 3 grand and after that's paid off I want to better my life and continue on that path I couldn't take then. I am currently working full time as a caretaker for individuals with develpmental dissabilities working 40 plus hours per week. I had scholorships that I lost now after my second time of dropping out. I attened PNC in Westville Indiana on two seperate occasions but never finished due to working 55 hour work weeks and a lot of personal issues. Needless to say, I was put on financial aid probation and was told I could no longer attend that college. What does financial aid probation mean? Does this mean I could no longer get financial aid? Or can I attend another college like a community college or do online classes and still get financial aid. Income wise I know I qualify. I am now 23 years old. I know I do not want to live the rest of my life with my parents or doing the job I currently do. My areas of interest are; dietitian/nutritionist; nursing (however I have issues with standing on my feet for long periods of time and back problems), graphic design. I'm not really sure what exatly I want to do which was also part of my reasoning for dropping out before. Also, I feel as though I will need a lot of tudoring because it is sometimes difficult for me to learn new things and retain information. Can someone please help me with any of this? If I go back to school I have to keep my full time status at work for money purposes and to keep my benifits. Also, I know my SAT scores were not very good in highschool... is there hope for me? PLEASE HELP! Thank you:)

Okay, it looks like you said you were on financial aid probation, and then either dropped or failed your courses. If that is correct you may not be eligible for more aid until your raise your overall GPA. Now aid aside I would recommend first getting an Associates degree at a local community college. Most community colleges offer better tutelage and better teacher to student ratios, so you can get your questions answered. Also it is quite a bit cheaper, usually about 1/3 the cost. If you are still a little ancy you can always go part time, and when you are absolutely sure that you are ready go full time. That would be my personal recommendation. Baby steps can be a very good thing sometimes, to much at once is similar to cultural shock. Go ahead and apply for the FAFSA though so you know what your options are, and about 2 weeks after you submit it go and speak with the financial aid office at the school(s) which you listed on your application. I hope this helps you and I do wish you the best of luck.
