How do I get involved with international aid work?

If I work two days can I get financial aid? or how does it work?

  • So my dad keeps annoying me to work at least Saturday and Sunday. But I don't want to work to pay my college stuff. Of course he said if I'm going to work to pay school then I don't have to work. But I'm just wondering. I get my classes paid and get some good amount of money to pay for books and some left over. If I could work two days and get classes paid and enough to pay books then I would work but if not then it's not worth it. Oh how is work study like? would it be the same? I want to help my dad out. I know it's a stress right now with bills. :/ and barely surviving.

  • Answer:

Yes you can work and still get financial aid. Depending on how much money you make, it may have no effect on your financial aid at all. Working only 2 days a week is unlikely to affect anything.

If you have money left-over... that is intended to pay your living expenses why are you not using that to help him by paying him a small amount in rent?

My advice is to go talk to your financial aid adviser to see if you are eligible to increase your loans or max out your loans for living expenses or educational expenses. The Federal Government has rules against what you can use the money for, but one thing for sure would be for your room and board. Food, utilities, rent, etc. If that is a bust or not enough, then you are able to work and still get your financial aid. The grant is the only part that is dependent on the amount of money you might make while in school because it is doubtful that you could earn enough to have limited or nonexistent subsidized loans. If you are a dependent student, the it depends on the number of financial household members as well as the amount of income for you and your parents. If it's just Dad there, then you and him. Your financial aid adviser should be able to assist you with this too. Good Luck!
