What colleges in CA allow you to choose your own roommate?

MAJOR COLLEGE HELP!!! dealing with my mom!!!?

  • ok so I decided which college(s) I want to go to BUT my mom won't let me choose and she basically wants to choose the college I go to. she says I'm choosing but read this argument I had with her. if you think I started it it wasn't me. she just out of nowhere started shouting and eventually yelling at me. by the way I'm 18. so here it is: mom: so (my name) have you decided what college you want to go to? me: yeah I want to go to (college1). mom: no you won't be able to go there because we are moving. you should go to (college2) because they sent you a (letter/invitation). me: lots of colleges have sent me letters/invitations. if I go to (college1) then it doesn't matter if you move because I'll be living in a dorm just like (friend1) is right now there. mom: you're not living in a dorm because most likely you will have a roommate that likes to party ALOT and you get NO privacy at all! me: (friend1) said on the phone that he loves college and he doesn't have a problem with his roommate. mom: I bet he's just SAYING that and he really HATES college! me: how would you know that. mom: SEE!!! your just like your FATHER!!! me: how am I like him? I'm not abusive and don't do drugs. mom: your abusing me right now! me: I'm going to (college1) it's my choice not yours. when you went to college you chose not your mom. mom: do you know how many shootings (college1) had!!! your friend is gonna get himself killed there! (I just left the room). ok so then I do some research to see how many shootings there were at college1. there were only 2 shootings that came up in google: one in July (one person injured) and the other in August (one person killed). this college was built in the 1980s. so a shooting is unlikely. and I just found out that both shootings were NEAR campus shootings. also there's alot of people in my class going to college1. and my teachers are also recommending me that college because they have a really good engineering program (I want to be an engineer). I really hate my questions being this long so I'm gonna end it here. so what's your opinion, oh my mom also said its too expensive. ok so what do you think I should do?

    so I think you should make a list of pros and cons for both colleges (try to not be biased), show it to your mom to prove that why exactly college1 is better. Apply for scholarships even if they are only $1000 or so and if you get it you will have more autonomy because your mom won't be the only one paying.

I had been in your situation before. My mother and I argued about college too. You know I live in New York and plans to go to college out of state which isn't going so well with her. My mother doesn't want me to go because she assumed that I am gonna party ALOT or do drug. She is just paranoid just like every mother. So just choose one that you feel it is a right choice. Not YOUR MOTHER. She don't make a decision for YOU just because of moving or she want you to live in the area where you guys are moving. DO NOT LET YOUR MOTHER FORCE YOU LIKE THAT OR YOU WILL REGRETS FOR MISSING OUT ON THE OPPORTUNITY. So I know what it is just like your situation. Every colleges aren't perfect or cheap so what do you expect? To me, I think you should follow your GUTS and DREAM. You also have to ask yourself if you feel that it is worth to go or not. Choose wisely and be happy with your choice no matter what. Trust me, your mother WILL respect you for that.
