What exactly is work-study aid?
-
I was admitted to a state university and according to my financial aid report, I'm eligible for subsidized loans, unsubsidized loans, and about $1000 of work-study. I've heard its basically just a program where you get a work-study job during your classes. But I also heard you can only work up to your award amount. So if Im eligible for $1000 work-study, do I just work up to that amount and I'm not actually being paid the money just goes back to the award I received? I'm thinking I'd rather just find a PT job that pays more. Anyone throw me a bone?

Answer:
Yeah, you are basically working up to that amount that was given to you. So for the Fall and Spring semester, you will be given $500 work-study, so you'll be working up until that amount.
