How much money can I make and still get a Pell grant?

When do I get my Pell Grant money?

  • When does a Pell Grant disburse? I was awarded a substantial Pell Grant for this upcoming year, but it has not yet paid out into my account. Its almost a month into the semester, and I need that money to pay for my rent. Does anyone know how long it takes for the grant to pay out?

    Distribution dates vary some from school to school, but you should have received your fall semester award by now... My pell grant arrived just recently, but it did arrive. The best thing to do at this point is to call your financial aid office and discuss their disbursement policy and make sure that they aren't waiting for some little tiny piece of information from you. Sounds crazy, I know. My disbursement was held up last semester because of a miscommunication on their end. I know it's tedious, but Good Luck!

Did my fafsa mid August, qualified for Pell, Pell was disbursed to my school 9/8/08, now just waiting for the school to disburse excess to me. You might also want to check www.nslds.ed.gov to see if it's actually been disbursed, that's the National Student Loan Data System for students, that site tells you about your Pell Grants and Student Loans.

Your college financial aid office should be able to provide you this information; however, it usually takes up to 2 months after the semester starts. This mainly depends on how early you sent in your FAFSA application.
